Dave played major league baseball from 1915 to 1930.

Mostly batted leadoff. Known mostly for his glove work. Dave was a fiery player and recognized as a good team leader

One of the greatest defensive shortstops to ever play the game even though error totals were high. Smaller gloves, less strikeouts made for more chances. Led league in chances per game in 6 seasons.

Bancroft's nickname "Beauty" is somewhat in dispute. Some sources claim it's what teammates yelled at Bancroft when he made a fine play in the field. Other sources say Bancroft himself would yell "Beauty!" when something went his team's way or when his pitcher made a great pitch. .

1915: Phillies Manager Moran credited the rookie with sparking his team from its 6th place finish the previous year to a pennant winner.

1920: Traded to New York Giants and was quickly named team captain.
