Los Angeles Dodgers- In an attempt to bolster their bullpen, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired P's Danys Baez and Lance Carter from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in exchange for promising young pitching prospects RHP Edwin Jackson and Chuck Tiffany, the move was made primarily due to the uncertain timetable of All-Star closer Eric Gagne who is recovering from June elbow surgery.....The Los Angeles Dodgers got two players that have been All-Stars, as Danys Baez was superb last season for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as he went 5-4 with 41 saves and registered a 2.86 ERA, and earned a spot on the American League All-Star squad, he has 96 saves over the past three seasons, as for Lance Carter he made the AL All-Star team in 2003 when he had 26 saves, The opportunity to add two relievers of this caliber to our bullpen fills a big need for us," Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said.Edwin Jackson was once considered a top tier prospect for the Los Angeles Dodgers appeared in 19 games over three seasons and went 6-4 with a 5.50 ERA, but last season he tailed off a bit, going a combined 9-11 with a 5.91 ERA with double-A Jacksonville and triple-A Las Vegas before going 2-2 with a 6.28 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers, "The stuff that made him rated that high is still there," Tampa Bay Devil Rays executive vice president Andrew Friedman said during a conference call. "He still possesses that dominant stuff and we're excited to get him in the organization." Chuck Tiffany went 11-7 with a 3.93 ERA and 134 strikeouts for Class-A Vero Beach last season, and the Tampa Devil Rays view him as a starter. In three pro seasons, he is 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA and 279 strikeouts.The Los Angeles Dodgers, by making this move have solidified their bullpen and can survive while Eric Gagne recuperates, thus making them favorites for the National League West crown, Danys Baez's contract calls for a $4 million salary this year. TheTampa Bay Devil Rays picked up his option after last season rather than give him a $1 million buyout, Carter agreed to a $550,000, one-year deal last month.The Dodgers look like thier putting the pieces together for a championship run.
