Los Angeles, CA -- (Sports Network) - Brad Penny tossed seven scoreless innings and Russell Martin tied his career high with four RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-1, in the rubber match of three-game series at Dodger Stadium.
Penny (6-1) scattered just six hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts. The right-hander got back in the win column after he was tagged for a season- high eight runs and eight hits in a setback to the Angels last Friday.
Martin had a three-run double and a sacrifice fly, while Juan Pierre went 2- for-4 and scored a pair of runs for Los Angeles, which has won two straight after putting the brakes on a four-game skid..
Chris Capuano (5-3) allowed four runs on eight hits over four innings with no walks and four strikeouts for Milwaukee. It was the left-hander's third straight loss.
Bill Hall had the lone RBI for the Brewers, who have dropped two straight.
The Los Angeles Dodgers gave Penny plenty of run support early on, handing him a four-run cushion by the end of their first at-bat.
Rafael Furcal ripped a leadoff single, Pierre followed with a base hit, and two batters later Jeff Kent was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Martin's double cleared the bags, and he wound up at third on the throw, while Luis Gonzalez followed with a single to make it 4-0.
Things got interesting in the fifth, when it appeared Martin had given Los Angeles a 5-0 lead with a solo homer down the left field line. Third base umpire Sam Holbrook immediately called it a home run, then conferred with the rest of the umpiring crew following an argument with Brewers manager Ned Yost.
Martin had already returned to the dugout by this point, but the call was reversed and he went back to the batter's box.
The next pitch from Carlos Villanueva sailed over Martin's head, and when he finally walked, he glared at Villanueva and got into a verbal altercation with Prince Fielder at first base. Martin then walked off the bag when first base coach Mariano Duncan started yelling at someone in the Brewers' dugout and was held back by Fielder, briefly causing both benches and bullpens to empty.
The Los Angeles Dodgers added a run in the seventh when Pierre drew a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on a balk and scored on Martin's sacrifice fly to left.
Milwaukee cut it to 5-1 in the eighth on Hall's RBI single.
