Randy Wolf Los Angeles Dodgers:
Randy Wolf was born on August 22, 1976 in Canoga Park, California. Randy Wolf is a left handed pitcher on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wolf played Pony League baseball at West Hills, CA. He played high school baseball at El Camino Real in Woodland Hills, CA, where he was named High School "Pitcher of the Year" by the Los Angeles Times in 1993, and "Player of the Year" in 1994. Wolf continued his amateur career at Pepperdine University and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of 1997 MLB draft, making his MLB debut June of 1999.
As with many Phillies players who have played near the end of Veterans Stadium before its destruction and almost all Phan Phavorites at Citizens Bank Park, Wolf has his own fan club, which was known as The Wolf Pack, who came to games sporting wolf masks. This had even spawned the Phillies promotional team to have a Randy Wolf Mask giveaway night.
As of the start of the 2006 season, Wolf has a career record of 66-60 with an ERA of 4.14 in 178 starts. Perhaps his best season was in 2003 when he was selected to the National League All-Star team and finished the year with a career high 16 wins. Wolf has an older brother named Jim Wolf who is a Major League Umpire. To avoid a potential conflict of interests, Jim Wolf is not allowed to work behind the plate for games his brother pitches. While generally considered to do a fair job, Luis Castillo, who at the time played for the National League East rival Florida Marlins, accused Jim Wolf of showing bias on a close play at first base.[citation needed] Luis Castillo has also been known to smash Randy Wolf bobblehead dolls before big meetings between the two ballclubs.
On July 1, 2005, Wolf underwent Tommy John surgery, missing the remainder of the season and the first half of the 2006 season. He made his return to the Phillies' rotation on July 30, 2006. He finished the 2006 season with a 4-0 record, pitching only 55 innings. He has declared free-agency, and signed with the Dodgers on November 27, 2006.
